ALIVE! Survived Head-On Car Crash

Donation protected
There is a time and place for everything, including asking others for help.

On January 29, 2017, around 11 A.M., I survived a head-on car crash with an enormous SUV. My Dodge Stratus was totaled, and I ended up in the hospital. I had blacked out at the wheel possibly from having a low-blood sugar incident.

I was rushed to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital since I was bruised from head to toe, bleeding, and in a lot of pain.

For two days I had scans of my brain and heart to see whether the blackout was caused from a heart attack or stroke, as well as to determine if I had any broken bones.

Despite my inquiring about the cost of the scans before they occurred, none of the nurses or radiologists could tell me anything. I found out the cost when recuperating at home for two months. The bills arrived and were astronomical. What a sinking feeling that was.

OMG! My unreimbursed expenses for the hospital were over $38,000 because I didn't qualify for Obamacare in 2017 due to low income, and Virginia did not expand the Medicaid Health insurance program for the uninsured. HELP!

Today, my right hand is still quite a mess with my thumb "in my palm." That's not where it was prior to the accident, and typing for work can be painful at times. I couldn't afford physical therapy on my hand because the initial Sentara consultation would be $350, with $100 for each follow-up visit.

I've done a lot of physical therapy myself, and I've gone to my chiropractor five times to get some relief at $25 a visit.

My driver's license has been on a mandatory medical suspension for six months, so I've had to walk five miles roundtrip to the grocery stores and six miles to the chiropractor. Walking that distance in the summer heat with a granny cart, since I can't afford a car, is exhausting at best.

To top it off, I'm supposed to be packing up my apartment and putting everything in storage because I can't stay here with the current large rent increase since February. I haven't been able to pack boxes because my right hand is still too painful, particularly the thumb.

If you can help me cover my medical bills now, please do so since they are long overdue. I really appreciate your consideration and assistance. No amount is too small.

Could you also share this Go Fund Me campaign with your friends and family?

Since I need to move to a new apartment ASAP, I don't want to default on my medical bills and have my credit ruined, which would adversely affect a housing application. The accident delayed my move by six months already, and I'm forced to pay the large rent increase. I may need to use these campaign funds raised for moving expenses too.

Thanks again for your consideration and assistance, and may you be blessed as you bless others.

Sincerely,
Frank Michel
