No Child Left Behind

The N.o C.hild L.eft B.ehind Initiative would like to source 500 tablets to be distributed to the students of two schools based in Montego Bay. Known for their academic strengths in all subject areas, Howard Cooke Primary and academic staple since 1952, Granville All Age.
 
These tablets can assist the communities where the digital divide increases daily with thinning budgets as a result of Covid. It is the mission of this campaign not only reach but exceed the amount of tablets requested. We have the power within our own communities to uplift and change others. Together we can ensure No Child is Left Behind………….

Covid – 19 has taken a devastating toll on the education structure and direction of young people in communities all over the globe. The need for technology in the home has been the forefront of conversation for school boards across the nation and beyond.

The rate of students who do not own the technology required for virtual learning is daunting. This digital divide is leaving children in a stand still as the fast pace world passes them by. Access to technology is a fundamental necessity and right for every child. This is exactly why the N.C.L.B. initiative created this campaign to assist in their hometown of Monetgo Bay, Jamaica.

In the U.S. we are afforded more opportunity to provide for our youth with tablets, laptops, and computers as most of us own one of the three or are being provided directly through our school programs.

 As we begin to stand firmer on the ground there are still surrounding countries such as Jamaica who are in massive need of technological resources to ensure continued education pathways for their youth. The Ministry of Education in Jamaica recently announced students will not have face to face classes for the foreseeable future. Big changes are coming regardless of budget and the children face the most to lose.

The Jamaica Teachers Association reported a sample of over 2,000 teachers across the island stating that only 36% of students were accessing online classes during the first week of reopening.

 An astounding 3% of those teachers were reporting full classroom attendance.

The island is exploring multiple alternatives to traditional face to face teaching such as broadcasts over tv stations and reverting to older methods of physical coursework that would be printed and distributed to the students.

Together as a community we can change the trajectory, uplift and support our youth not in division but in knowledge that the future will be that much brighter for us all.

We are the protectors of the future, through unity all can be achieved.
