Jesus Fight Against Cancer
Don protégé
Hi Everyone,
On June 17, 2023 my husband, Jesus, was having some pain/discomfort on his left shoulder. We thought it was probably just a sprain so we went to urgent care to get it checked out. From urgent care we were sent to the emergency room for further testing because they thought the pain was related to his heart. After getting a CT scan done they discovered that his spleen was enlarged and was causing the pressure on his left side. They ran multiple blood work tests and he was diagnosed with Leukemia. After receiving this terrifying news, they immediately transferred us to Medical City Dallas to begin chemotherapy.
We spent three weeks at Medical City Dallas, where he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. We were told that this form of leukemia is fast growing and life expectancy after it starts is only 2-3 weeks. He was able to do the first round of chemotherapy there and then we were transferred to Baylor Scott and White Dallas. Since then he has been in and out of the hospital receiving chemotherapy and was also hospitalized due to his port getting infected. Jesus has now officially hit remission and is ready to proceed with a bone marrow transplant. We will
begin that whole process on November 24, 2023.
One of the biggest restrictions Jesus has received is he can’t be around plants or flowers. He works in a landscaping company, therefore he has not worked since June 16 and will
not be able to return to work for another 6-8 months post transplant. To not compromise his immune system and because he will also need a caregiver 24/7 post transplant for at least 3 months, I will also be taking time off work to be with him.
This whole thing has not been cheap and even with insurance the transplant itself will also be very pricey and that’s not including all the post transplant care. If you are able to please consider helping us during this difficult time to help alleviate some of this stress of our shoulders. If you can’t, please share and keep us in your prayers as we face one of the biggest obstacles of this whole process.
We thank God for catching his cancer on time and we pray that he will continue to give us the strength to keep fighting.
