Community Rubbish Art Project Bali

I am a Melbourne artist passionate about making a change in the world and having a voice about the things that matter through creating art.
Primarily a painter, I have more recently become interested in making art works out of the discarded objects we find on our beaches.
While there is penty of rubbish on our urban beaches, in Bali it's a plague that is choking the island and the waters surrounding it.
I fell in love with Bali the first time I went there as a 17 year old, now nearly 30 years on it still feels like my second home. But I have become increasingly concerned about the plastic waste there, how little infastructure there is to deal with the problem, and how little the Balinese are educated to manage the waste differently. Tourism there is a main contributor and that is not about to change, so something needs to be done.
I plan to go to Bali in August and spend a month there creating art works with local communities out of the discarded waste. my desire is to create beauty out of the rubbish and create awareness of the issue through the art works.
I will be working closely with an organisation called R.O.L.E Foundation who do amazing work with the local people offering educational programs around rubbish on the beaches and in the oceans. Their website is www.rolefoundation.org Check them out, they're awesome!
I plan to volunteer all my time and help to set up an ongoing program with R.O.L.E that will see Balinese children creating art out of found objects...these thay can sell, or use within their schools and homes.
The money raised will go towards getting me to Bali plus my minimal expenses, the rest will go towards setting up the program, buying any extra materials we may need, paying Balinese artists who would like to be on board with the program and giving money to R.O.L.E to help them keep the program going.
I am so passionate about this cause! We can make a difference through creating beauty.... art speaks volumes and is an awesome tool for positve change.
