Linda's Medical Expenses

My name is Kelli Martin. My family and I are trying to raise money for our dear mother, Linda Martin. She has been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). If you are not aware of this disease I can asure you that it is devastating to the person and the family. There is no cure. There is currently only 1 medication for this and has been proven to slow down the progression by 3-5 months. The prognosis of this disease is typically 3-5 years after onset of symptoms. We have been waiting for over 1 year for a clincial trial to become available in Indianapolis. There has been nothing. There is currently a trial beginning in North Carolina and from we can tell is that our mother with qualify. However, even though the medicine that she will be recieving is free, the cost of travel and hotel stays are not. The trial she will be doing is taking a new pill along with the current medicine used to slow down the disease. The hopeful outcome is that it would slow the progression even more or stop the progression completely. My mother is a wonderful person. For those of you that know her know that she is as kind and giving as they come. She loves her grandchildren and her family so much. We want her to be with us for a long time. Her husband, which is my father, passed away 13 years ago. She has never remarried and her grandbabies and family are everything to her. This has been devastating to her watching herself becoming dependent on others to take care of her. Not being able to walk anymore is the hardest. Even taking her out to the store in her wheelchair causes her a lot of pain and extreme fatigue. Our family would be honored and forever grateful if you would donate any money to helping us get her to this clinical trial.
