That smile! Ivy Young’s smile transforms the spirit of anyone lucky enough to cast eyes on it. All her life, Ivy has brought that infectious smile to her work as an activist in all areas of social justice—civil rights, human rights, LGBTQ and women's right, and cultural organizing.
For years, Ivy has also been afflicted with Chronic Lung Disease (COPD). And each year it gets worse. In 2018, she has spent most of her time in the hospital because her lungs were seriously deteriorating. She was unable to breathe on her own and her mobility became extremely limited.
This past August, doctors delivered the news—not altogether unexpected—that nothing more could be done. Ivy's lungs would not heal.
Ivy has decided that, rather than spending her remaining days in a nursing home, she prefers to return to her own home and receive in-home hospice care as she prepares to depart this beautiful world she lived in so well and loved so deeply.
This requires round-the-clock care by home health aides. These are essential services that Medicare does not cover. The $3,500 to $4,000 a month cost is huge! Too huge!
This is urgent! Ivy asks her friends, family, friends of friends and unknown good Samaritans to help as they can. All funds received will go toward supporting Ivy’s constant home aide services and other miscellaneous in-home care costs.
These funds are needed immediately so that Ivy’s caregivers can perform their skilled, daily work.
Ivy would also appreciate phone calls and visits from friends who know and love her. And she could use some help running occasional errands.
