Cancer Wars: A New Hope for Mauricio’s Battle with Lymphoma

My name is Mauricio Cuervo and I just turned 65. I live in the Metro Atlanta area with my wife, and we have two daughters and 6 grandchildren (ages 5, 3, 3, 2, 7 months, and newborn). I am currently battling cancer, with my wife as my caregiver. I am seeking treatment to help me beat cancer and live out the rest of my life enjoying time with my family.
In May 2019 I noticed I had a bump on the left side of my neck. As soon as my doctor saw it, she immediately sent me to consult with a colleague of hers at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta. After extensive testing including a biopsy and CT scan, I received a phone call on May 23rd, 2019 to inform me that I had been diagnosed with Lymphoma and should start chemotherapy right away. I went through my first round of chemo from early June to late September 2019.
After four months of chemo, a PET scan revealed a new mass in my lower abdomen. The oncologist recommended a second cycle of chemo in preparation for a bone marrow transplant, stating that was the next protocol they followed for someone with Lymphoma if the first round of chemo didn’t work.
When I was going through the second round of chemo in November 2019, my wife and I met for a consultation with the transplant specialist in preparation for the bone marrow transplant they had scheduled for me to have on March 2020. During this meeting, we were told that the maximum success rate of this procedure is 50%, meaning that the chance for me to actually be cured by undergoing a bone marrow transplant is a 50/50 bet, a lot of side effects for life, a risk of death and the cancer will come back some years later.
Unsatisfied with this option, my wife began to research alternative treatment options and found stories of many people beating cancer without conventional therapy (i.e. chemotherapy).
During our quest to find an alternative protocol, my wife’s sister, Catha Briceno, send us the book written by Andrea Thompson, “How I beat cancer. My journey of overcoming the deadly disease in 90 days!”, and in it, we read about Dr. Raymond Hilu, a renowned cellular biologist who practices mainly out of his clinic, the Hilu Institute, located in Marbella, Spain.
We also read stories of cancer survivors who recounted how, instead of chemo, following a natural treatment protocol provided by Dr. Raymond Hilu was fundamental in beating their cancer.
The more we read about Dr. Hilu, his treatment protocols, and the testimonies of the patients who have been successfully cured under his care, the more we felt that this was the answer we were seeking for my battle with Lymphoma.
We contacted the Hilu Institute. Due to the severity of my Lymphoma, my protocol includes a complete lifestyle change I am implementing at home, and the recommendation for a two-week in-person treatment at the Hilu Institute in Spain. I started the protocol from Dr. Hilu in January and I am feeling great, but now more than ever I need to do the treatment in Spain, because my cancer is aggressive and it is spreading rapidly. I just had another tumor in my colon. I had surgery this past May 1st, at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital, where the Doctors removed 1/3 of my Colon.
However, since these treatment at Dr. Hilu’s clinic is not based on traditional medical practices it hasn’t been approved to be practiced in the United States, which means that the treatment is not covered by insurance. At $21,000USD, the cost of this treatment is objectively well below the cost of both the chemotherapy and the bone marrow transplant that were recommended by the oncology team that treated me last year. Unfortunately, without the help of insurance, and adding the cost of travel, meals, and lodging, we simply cannot afford to pay for this treatment out-of-pocket.

Mi nombre es Mauricio Cuervo y acabo de cumplir 65 años. Vivo cerca de Atlanta con mi esposa y tenemos dos hijas y 6 nietos (edades 5, 3, 3, 2, 7 meses y un recién nacido). Tengo cáncer y mi esposa es la que me ha cuidado durante esta enfermedad. Estoy buscando un tratamiento que me ayude a vencer el cáncer y pueda vivir el resto de mi vida disfrutando a mi familia.
En Mayo del 2019 noté un bulto en el lado izquierdo de mi cuello. Apenas mi médico lo vió, me refirió a un colega suyo en el Hospital de Emory St. Joseph en Atlanta. Después de varios exámenes, incluídas una biopsia y una tomografía computarizada, recibí una llamada el 23 de Mayo, 2019 para decirme que había sido diagnósticado con Linfoma y debía empezar quimioterapia inmediatamente. Tuve mi primer tratamiento de quimioterapia desde principios de junio hasta final de Septiembre del 2019.
Después de cuatro meses de quimioterapia, una tomografía generalizada reveló un nuevo tumor en la parte baja de mi abdomen. La oncóloga recomendó un segundo tratamiento de quimioterapia en preparación para un trasplante de médula ósea, y nos dijo que ese es el siguiente protocolo que siguen para alguien que tiene Linfoma y no le sirvió la primera ronda de quimioterapia.
Cuando estaba en mi segundo tratamiento de quimioterapia en Noviembre del 2019, mi esposa y yo nos reunimos con la médico especialista de transplante de médula ósea para prepararnos para este procedimiento, que ya ellos tenían programado para Marzo del 2020. Durante esta reunión, nos dijeron que la probabilidad de curación con este procedimiento era del 50%, además de muchos efectos colaterales de por vida, riesgo de muerte y que el cáncer volvería después de algunos años.
No estando satisfechos con esta opción, mi esposa empezó a averiguar tratamientos alternativos y encontró historias de muchas personas que se curan de cáncer sin seguir tratamientos convencionales, como la quimioterapia.
Durante nuestra búsqueda de un tratamiento alternativo, la hermana de mi esposa, Catha Briceño, nos regaló un libro escrito por Andrea Thompson, “How I beat cancer. My journey of overcoming the deadly disease in 90 days!”, (“Cómo vencí el Cáncer. ¡Mi camino para superar esta enfermedad mortal en 90 días!”) y en él nos enteramos sobre el Doctor Raymond Hilu, Médico especializado en Medicina Celular, cuya práctica principal está localizada en Marbella, España.
También leímos historias de sobrevivientes de cáncer que cuentan cómo siguiendo el protocolo y tratamiento natural del Dr. Raymond Hilu, en vez de quimioterapia, lograron vencer esta enfermedad.
A medida que aprendimos más sobre el Dr. Hilu, sus tratamientos y protocolos y los testimonios de pacientes que han sido curados exitosamente por él, sentíamos que ésta era la respuesta que estábamos buscando para luchar contra mi Linfoma.
Nos pusimos en contacto con el Dr. Hilu. Debido a la severidad de mi Linfoma, mi protocolo incluye un cambio total de estilo de vida que estoy haciendo en casa, y la recomendación de acudir a dos semanas de tratamiendo en la Clinica del Dr. Hilu en España. Empecé mi protocolo recomendado por el Dr, Hilu en Enero y me siento bien, pero ahora más que nunca necesito hacer el tratamiento en España, porque mi cáncer es agresivo y se está extendiendo rápidamente. Sinembargo, como este tratamiento del Dr. Hilu no se basa en prácticas convencionales de medicina, no está aprobado en los Estados Unidos, y esto quiere decir que mi seguro médico no lo cubre. El costo total es de $ 21,000 dólares y aún así, es objetivamente mucho menor que los tratamientos de quimioterapia y del trasplante de médula ósea recomendados por el equipo de oncólogos que me trató el año pasado. Desafortunadamente, sin la ayuda del seguro médico, y sumando los costos del viaje, comidas y hospedaje, no podemos de ninguna manera pagar este tratamiento.
