Those of you that know my mom well, know that she will kill me for writing this.
Some of you know (and many of you may not know) that my mom has been battling Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the white plasma cells - the ones that produce antibodies. She went through chemo and has done fairly well so far. After depleting my parents retirement funds to cover thousands of dollars monthly that was not covered by insurance ..She is technically in remission. This is Great News!
Except, in order to stay in remission, she has to go and live at John's Hopkins Hospital for two to three months while they do a stem cell transplant. The doctors say this treatment will both prolong her life and add to her quality of life. It will be a long and difficult process which includes some pretty heavy duty chemo. While some of the treatment is covered by insurance none of the living expenses and travel expenses are.
The cost of living at John's Hopkins just for the boarding is 1800.00 a month (none of it is covered by insurance). I am hoping to raise at least some of that to help ease the burden this has been on my parents and help my mom to concentrate on healing.
I feel funny putting this out there, because I know I hate to ask for help - and I think I got that from her, but if you are able to help it would be a blessing. And if not, please pray for her and my dad as they navigate the next few months.
