Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to Housemates - a film following a transformative weekend in the life of a woman with Down’s Syndrome, and her neurotypical sister.
Housemates shines a fresh light on sisterhood and the line between ‘sibling’ and ‘guardian’ that many adults struggle to walk in later life. The story was inspired by my personal experience as the niece of an adult with Down's. My uncle, Richie, exceeded every 1970s expectation placed on him at birth; he has had long-term jobs, lived alone, travelled the world. But, as he aged, the lack of societal awareness surrounding Down’s in adults has really started to show.
I've created a world in which the protagonist's, Cassie’s, independence is thoroughly explored and celebrated. The more stories like hers are told, the more informed and inclusive our society will become.
Abi Brydon (Downs With Love, Cutting Edge Theatre) plays Cassie. Shooting wrapped this autumn in Glasgow, with DOP Gregor Barclay (The Immeasurable Joy of Healthy Living, Bells), and cast from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Your donations will help us get this film onto your screens - through live screenings and film festival submissions! Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.
Thank you!
