House To Home - furnishing homes for refugees

House To Home Ottawa needs your help. We are an organization that furnishes homes for refugee families through community donations. We recently moved from our old warehouse space in Mooneys Bay, to our new space in Westgate Shopping Centre. Our goal over the past two years has been to furnish the homes of refugee families, making sure they have a soft secure landing in their new country. We do this by providing household items and furniture, providing them with everything from mattresses, beds, couches, linen, towels, blankets, tables, kitchen ware, chairs, dining sets, clothing and so much more.

We have furnished the homes of over 850 families (in just 2 years), and we continue to have new requests each and every day. Sometimes the demand is overwhelming, but we put the call out for furniture, offer free pick up days and send our staff out to get more furniture to meet the demand. It is what we do as it is important to us to make sure people are off the floor and comfortable in their homes.

This past week we were robbed.

It is quite devastating. We are in shock and still processing.

With our new space came new expenses, not just the cost of the move (which everyone knows how expensive those are), but extra things like changing the locks, getting a new emergency door push bar installed, a hydro bill for $1700....and then this week we were ROBBED.

It's all overwhelming and as I said, I don't think we have processed it yet.

Just trying to make the list for the police is a big task, we keep looking for things that are not there, things which were clearly stolen.
