House of Hope Opening Costs

Donation protected
Since we were founded in 2015, HCU has been provided literacy, computer, arts education as well as public health and financial services to over 3,000 people in Gulu, Uganda. We followed our mission to create an empowered community of innovative, educated youth, by building the House of Hope: a community center, safe space,  entrepreneurship hub and educational oasis in Northern Uganda.

The final costs we have to cover upon the opening of the center are:

GIRL POWER GULU: As our women's health program enters its second year, we are excited to start a program where we distribute materials for our beneficiaries to make reusable, environmentally-friendly sanitary pads. Community influencers will receive special trainings so they can provide educational workshops to give even more women the skills to make and maintain their own sanitary pads and the healthy lifestyle that comes with them.

MUSIC + ARTS PROGRAM: Thanks to generous donations from summer interns, the House of Hope is well-equipped with a library with books from all levels and a computer lab with almost 20 computers and iPads. We are excited to work with established teachers in the flourishing Ugandan fashion, dance, and art scenes to develop our arts programs. These individuals are willing to volunteer for our cause, but we need to raise money to offer them weekly transportation to the center. We also are raising money and in-kind donations for equipment: from fabric and needles, pencils and paints, to speakers, instruments, and DJ controllers.

OPENING CEREMONY: September 22, we will host a ceremony thanking the community for their support of the youth center. This event boosts local morale by providing our beneficiaries with a day of networking, celebration, arts and dance performances, food, games and speeches.
