House fire - quadriplegic in critical condition

Nadeana Halamar, my niece was involved in a tragic accident in March of 2006, rendering her a quadriplegic and requiring her to raise her young daughter, Taylor, while confined to a wheelchair with limited use of her upper body. Tragedy struck again in the early hours of January 5, 2023 as a house fire erupted while Nadeana and her daughter Taylor were inside the home. Taylor, along with a nearby police officer was able to pull Nadeana from the home. Taylor suffered burns, but has been treated and thankfully is expected to make a full recovery physically. The emotional trauma will be with her for years to come. Their 3 dogs, 2 cats and 1 turtle perished in the fire.

However, Nadeana suffered 3rd degree burns on her face, neck, arms, legs, and torso leaving her in critical and unstable condition. Due to the severity of her burns, she was transferred from Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN to the intensive care burn unit at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. It was a blessing they had a bed open for her.

Nadeana’s doctors have shared that the next 24-72 hours will be critical in determining if she will survive. If she does, her road to recovery will be long, painful, and expensive. Our hope is that with these funds, some of the medical bills will become less of a burden for the family, and allow for her mother, Kara to take adequate time off of work to care for and be with Nadeana. In addition, the funds will be used to replace everything which was lost in the fire where the home was a total loss. All of their belongings, including clothing, medical equipment, furniture, household goods, and a new vehicle, as well as to find a new home once released from the hospital.
