HOSPITAL HARTFORD HEDGEHOG RESCUE
Don protégé
We are setting up this Go Fund Me page for Hartford Hedgehog Rescue which is based in Cambridgeshire (UK).
Suzanne Tibbetts has been running a hospital for sick and injured hedgehogs brought to her by members of the public, for the last 7 years. She is self-funding and spends all her spare time devoting her energy to these poor creatures who come to her in various states of medical need and distress. When they survive, they are then lovingly returned to the area from whence they came, if possible, or to another appropriate site near people who will regularly leave food and water out for them, and provide hedgehog hotels to protect them in the cold weather’
Unfortunately, an extremely rare and deadly virus was brought into the hospital in November (2023), by one of the sick hedgehogs and the spread of the virus resulted in the loss of many of the hedgehogs who were in recovery. Suzanne disinfected everything and started again but unfortunately the virus was still contained within the building and again, a number of hedgehogs were lost. This took a terrible toil on Suzanne and she had to close the hospital down, being advised by experts to do this for 75 days, to increase the likelihood of the hospital being clear.
But Suzanne wants to cover the wooden walls and ceiling with plasterboard and wipeable cladding so she can maintain the best standards of hygiene possible. Having got quotes for the work, and a benefactor giving her £1,000 to kick start the project, Suzanne still needs to find £2,700 to get the job done. This is money she doesn’t have and if she can’t find the funds, she is unsure when she will be able to reopen. This is heartbreaking as she nurses, saves and releases around 150 desperate hedgehogs every year.
So if you can make this happen by giving a donation to Hartford Hedgehog Rescue, however small, Suzanne will be incredibly grateful and she and her wonderful team of volunteers will be able to save more of these delightful little animals (NB In 2020, hedgehogs were put on the IUCN Red List as vulnerable to extinction in Great Britain, so we must do everything we can to keep the species going). That’s why Suzanne and Hartford Hedgehog Rescue needs our support. Thank you very much in advance for reading this
