Yulin 2017 - Help Save the Dogs

Donation protected
During the summer solstice in June, up to 15,000 dogs (and cats) are brutally killed during the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China.  The animals are transported to slaughterhouses in inhumane conditions, forced into tiny cages without food or water, and often without oxygen, sometimes for days.  Those that survive the trip are then killed in horrific and sadistic ways.  Because adrenaline is mistakenly believed to make the meat taste better and to provide health benefits, the dogs and cats are purposely tortured.  They are subject to being beaten with clubs and iron bars, skinned or boiled alive, cut, hung, dismembered, torched, and by other unimaginable methods of violence.  All while still alive and fully conscious, as other terrified dogs see and hear their pain.  Many of the dogs and cats killed during this gruesome festival are stolen pets, some still wearing their collars.  They are Golden Retrievers, they are German Shepards, they are Chihuahuas and Terriers, they are mutts, they are puppies . . . no dog is too small or too young or too cute to be tortured.

The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation (AHWF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on rescuing abused and neglected animals.  Marc Ching of AHWF and his team worked to save at least 5,000 dogs from being slaughtered in Yulin this year.

AHWF has a shelter located in Changsha, China run by Suki Su.  At the shelter, there are over 200 dogs that have been rescued from the biggest slaughterhouses in Northern China.  While many Chinese citizens are against the dog meat trade, these slaughterhouse survivors are not adopted out locally, for obvious reasons.  The only chance that they have at a forever home is being transported out of country.

Like many people, I have been an animal lover since I was a child. As an adult, I have tried to put my passion for animals into action. have volunteered for the SF SPCA for the last six years. I have been involved with various rescue organizations and private re-homing of pets. My team won the annual fundraising contest for the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA two years in a row. Please help me to help AHWF.

I am flying to Changsha on 9/3/2017 to volunteer at the AHWF shelter. My goal is to fly up to ten of the rescued dogs back with me.  I have once committed adopter, and we will be partnering with private fosters to take the other dogs upon arrival in the United States.

I will be covering my own costs.  100% of your donation will go toward the cost of transporting the dogs, which can be up to $1,000 per dog.  This includes the airline transportation fee, and all required vaccines, health documentation and other export requirements. Any leftover funds will be donated to AHWF.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for your support.  For more information on the Yulin Festival and on the dog meat trade in Asia, or to donate directly to AHWF, please go to animalhopeandwellness.org
