HOPE (Hold On, Pain Ends) For Rain

Donation protected
Pain is not something that we would want to live on; not even for a few seconds. Imagine having no choice but to do so for several days in a month, and for several years now.

Disheartening it is! Yet my 35-year-old sister, Rain, is experiencing just that, yet she cannot be thwarted, life goes on. She is a strong believer in the hope for HOPE (Hold On, Pain Ends); and that better days are yet to come.

In the year 2017, she was diagnosed with Endometriosis and  Adenomyosis.

For three years now, she’s been suffering from severely painful periods accompanied with excessive bleeding (which could last up to a week or more); chronic abdominal and lower back pain; pelvic pain; nausea; bloating. These excruciating pain sessions would most of the time render her bed-bound throughout the duration of her menstrual period; leaving her job and activities on hold.

In the year 2019, with the hopes of ending the pain while keeping her fertility, Rain underwent a surgery for the removal of one out of three myomas that was causing severe bleeding. After a few months, the pain and heavy periods came back twofold.

Her gynecologist put her on birth control, then a drug called Lupron to manage her pain, but it’s not sustainable as she gets severe side effects like migraines and hot flashes. She lives dreading the monthly sufferings brought by her period.

To alleviate her pain completely, Rain is scheduled this month to undergo a surgery called “Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingectomy” which involves the removal of her uterus and fallopian tubes, keeping the ovaries as to not have other menopausal symptoms right away. Yes, she'll have to sacrifice the hope of having children of her own. She'll always be the fun-loving auntie to her nephews and nieces.

Rain is currently employed as a home-based virtual assistant in the Philippines, yet her company health insurance cannot cover this surgery as this is a pre-existing medical condition. Prior to her employment as a VA, she was self- employed and had no recent contributions to government agencies such as the Philippine Social Security System (SSS) and PhilHealth. Apart from her savings, she has no other sources to help fund her surgery.

We know that the year 2020 has been such a smorgasbord of unprecedented twists and turns, and that everyone is going through something. And it’s also the holiday season, a season of giving. With that in mind, we are reaching out to everyone with kind and generous hearts, we know times are tough for many right now, so if you are not able to donate we’d be grateful if you can please share this within your own circle/community.

For those in the Philippines, you can also donate via Gcash 0949 [phone redacted]

Your assistance is much appreciated, as we go hand-in-hand with Rain’s journey of hope for HOPE.
