Hope for the Refugees of War

My name is Chris Crossan, and I serve as one of the pastors of Gateway Community Church of Alhambra, California.
In 2014, ISIS attacked several minorities in Syria, causing a mass exodus of refugees into Iraq. Today there are several thousand refugee families living in camps along the border of Syria and Iraq. In late April I plan to meet with some of their community leaders, and introduce them to the story of their sacred history contained in the Jewish scriptures. Many events in the ancient past - such as the Tower of Babel, the arrival of the prophet Daniel, the rise of Queen Esther, and the dispatching of the Magi to Bethlehem - these took place in their region of Mesopotamia and among their people.
Using a partial Arabic version of the book, Children of the Magi: A Sacred History of the Kurds and the Persians, I hope to bear a message of comfort and healing after so many of them have suffered the ravages of war. I want them to know that someone in heaven cares about them deeply. I will be distributing the books among the refugees in their camps, and to the churches in Erbil and Dohuk.
My round trip ticket is $1,212, and $500 will cover the printing of 100 books. If more funds come in, I will use them to help pay for a complete Arabic translation of the book, and to print more copies (approximately $5 per book) to be distributed in the months ahead. I thank you in advance for your participation, and I will prepare a report of my trip in mid-May.
