Hope for Ms. Mildred
As most of you know, the Community Benefit Committee and others have been helping Ms. Mildred Jones, a longtime Columbus resident. My name is Janie and I serve as treasurer for the committee. Most know her from walking down highway 45 with her buggy. She is a sweet person but she’s mentally disabled to make some life altering decisions on her own so we’ve been trying to get her a new, stabled home, a consistent way for her to take her medicine, and help with her leg. She was involved in a hit and run and is still dealing with pain in her leg from her injury. The medicine that helps with her mental state is not covered through her Medicaid insurance and costs over $300. We also need help with a housing deposit, first and last month’s rent. She also needs to see an orthopedic doctor to look at her leg and hip. Unfortunately, when people find out who we’re helping, they recant their offers to help for housing. She’s homeless and we’ve been helping pay for her stay at a local motel. So this year, for my birthday, I would like to host a fundraiser for her. All proceeds will go to helping her get a stable home and medical attention. Lt. Rhonda Sanders, one of her biggest advocates, has a birthday and it’s February 15, so you have 15 days to help us help her. You can donate any day and any amount leading up to her birthday.
We have decided to keep the fundraiser going until Sunday, Feb. 21. These funds will do towards her housing needs, medical needs, travel needs to her doctor in Tupelo, MS, and continued care.
