Hope for Ians family

Donation protected

Ian Duff
Age 37
Father

Ian is a Sales Professional for the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and nature fanatic. Ian has been sent home to die by multiple Hospitals even though he has a willing live donor. He will die within the next few days if he cannot have a liver transplant.
The issue is he was an alcoholic for years. He hasn’t asked to be on a transplant list and he doesn’t want and would not be taking a liver that could otherwise be given to someone else the hospital deems more "deserving". Instead he would be receiving in the transplant a portion of his sister liver who volunteered immediately to give it to him. The medical community does recognize Alcoholism as a disease, however it still able to discriminates against it. And therefore Ian has been barred from being given his sisters' gift to save his life.
I’ve done a lot of research over the past week and discovered that there is more evidence within the scientific community summarizing the facts that Alcoholics have similar recovery times to non-alcoholic’ after a liver transplant; in addition they are more statistically less likely to not consuming alcohol again after a successful transplant. In fact, studies have shown that the current practice of making Alcoholics stay sober for 3 to 6 months prior to their transplant did not change any significant outcome of those who underwent the surgery. Without a transplant 50% of alcoholic patients who need a liver transplant will die waiting within 3 to 6 months.
Ian Duff will be one of those unfortunate many who has found he has days left after they discovered his liver is failing, unless a miracle happens. With the current practice of reserving liver transplants for more "qualified patients", the medical community has condemned Ian to die; regardless of a willing and compatible family member who can donate part of her own liver to save the life of her brother.
In the end, Ian will be survived by his children who must now cope with losing one of their parents at such an early age. Leaving a hole in their lives that will affect them every day going forward. This fundraiser was created to help the surviving members of Ian's family from this seemingly avoidable crisis. Proceeds will likely cover “last days” medical and funeral expenses with anything additional going to his progeny; unless we are able to find a hospital willing to give him the chance to live. In this case all proceeds will go into transportation and transplant.
If you can help ease this suffering for Ian and his family, you may donate below. If you cannot gift a donation, we still ask that you please share this link with anyone you can. At the very least we hope that together, we can bring to light the discrimination he and many others like him have faced that will forever hurt the loved ones of those that they are forced to leave behind.
