Hope For Dumpster Doggies: Build Shelter Fund

Donation protected

Dear Friends,

What used to seem as an unachievable dream so big that Sebahat for years didn’t dare to dream it, to want it, now it has materialized.

WE GOT THE LAND!!!

The foundation for the emergency shelter is paid for! It is ours! It is here. It is done!

We made this happen! And I am so proud of each of us. I feel really happy for this gift that we like a puzzle put together, piece by piece. From all over the world your love and support came in and we pieced it together into something this big and life changing for hundreds of homeless dogs and for Sebahat. I dare to say, for that region.

Thank you all so much! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I am attaching the photos of the land and a video. Please enjoy. I hope it meets your expectations.
(Photos are in the Updates section of this campaign.)

What is next –
1. This week or early next week, I will do another update where I will share with you documentation about the land – the copies from purchase papers, books etc.
2. In the following update I will share with you plans for the emergency shelter. We paid for the land about 14K which means we have about 6K left from this campaign. We are planning to use that money towards building the emergency shelter and setting everything up like fences, garbage disposal system and such. I will share details about this too in the next update.
3. I will close this campaign. :)

Love and many tail wags,

Dumpster Doggies and their Team

Update -

Dear supporters, donators and kind hearted people!

With your active engagement and selfless donations we have gathered an incredible amount of funds for our shelter land.  We have enough of money to buy the land, but we still need money for infrastructure costs for water and electricity and to set up very basic facilities.  For those reasons we are leaving this campaign open and donations from now on will go towards the costs of setting up the actual infrastructure and the shelter.

Until this moment, Sebahat didn't have any money. She sold her car to feed the dogs. This is the first time we are getting support and a lot of it. We feel very responsible to honor your support for us.  We promise to do our very best and to be spending this money the most carefully that we can. We are committed to 100% transparency with you and we will show you every bill that we will pay with this money so you will know exactly how we spent it.

Thank you and we can't wait to share with you happy updates!

We are a very small group of volunteers trying to help stray dogs in Kastamonu Turkey.  There are many of them. Their lives are hard as stray dogs. They battle famine, pestilence, dehydration, skin burns in the summer, cold in the winter. They also battle cruelty of the locals.

We are currently visiting about 600 dogs in 7 different areas that span over about 300 km. We cannot manage to see all of the doggies as much as they need us to because some areas are far away and we don't have a car or money to pay for frequent trips.

One of the solutions that would let us help the dogs more as well as the region in a more constructive long term way is to have a shelter for them. That is our dream.

As soon as we have even a primitive shelter for them, we'll be able to start spay/neuter project, we'll be able to nurse to health the sickest ones, and to transfer the ones from most remote areas into the shelters. We'll be able to save puppies that are dying from cold and spay/neuter them. Also, in the past we were able to facilitate a few adoptions that we posted on our website. We are hoping to facilitate even more adoptions once we have dogs in one place.

Renting a property is not an option for us. No one wants to allow us to put stray dogs on their land. Locals are indifferent or cruel towards the stray dogs. We are forced to buy land to build a shelter on it. We looked for cheaper land around us and found one property.

The land we found is close by where we live, it has electricity, and water. It is surrounded by forest and far away from farm lands and communities which makes it ideal for our needs.

We already have a family from Holland that will put fence around the land and who will help us build basic shelters.

Read here more about the land.
See here more about our work day to day, our struggles and victories.
Read here about Sebhat. The girl that has spent years with dumpster doggies.

Every penny from this campaign, all the paperwork involved in purchasing of this land and building the basic shelters will be documented and publicly displayed here and on our website. We will use 100% of the funds towards that goal!

We look forward to the day we will celebrate together setting up the first shelter for our dumpster doggies.

Love and blessings,
