Honouring the Life of Our Best Friend and Father

We just want to start this off with a little backstory of our dad’s fight with leukemia:

He never backed down- not one single time, if anyone knew how to fight it was our dad.

2008 was the year he was diagnosed, and it is 2024 now- that is almost 16 years of

battling one of the most invasive cancers, yet he did it the whole way through whilst

raising and supporting us as a single parent. As a three we faced multiple challenges

besides his poor health including homelessness and many other family and emotional

issues. But every single time we came out on top, and stronger because of him.

Not only did our dad always have a smile on his face, but he also went above and

beyond to put a smile on the faces of everyone surrounding him, and he did that without fail. His laugh was contagious, and his presence was so bright it could light up the darkest of rooms.

Our dad's life was one hell of a rollercoaster, and no matter what he was going through he would always put his problems aside to help whoever needed it regardless of who they were or how long he had known them. So much so that even on his last day he was trying to connect people.

It was his nature to smile in the face of difficulties and just keep going. And he did that all whilst supporting everyone and everything along the way.

Our Dad loved us so deeply- what felt like just the other day he texted me:

“Grand risings monkey, I love you and your brother so much and you both make me so proud to have been part of your lives. You have such wonderful souls.”

He never failed to make us feel seen.

He was constantly telling all his many friends how special we are and how proud of us he was- in turn every time we met someone new (which happened a lot) they would tell us how much of a legend our father is, and how we have the coolest Dad.

You were all right every single time- he was and still is that legend and he will always be the coolest dad out there.

As many of you probably know- our dad was rich with love, connections, friends, and

energy, but not so rich financially- he spent so much time connecting others that he

partly forgot about himself.

We have started this GoFundMe so we can raise money to cover the costs of the funeral and all the other aspects that come with it- it would be so lovely to give our dad the send-off he deserves.

Everyone has been there for us since our dad passed, and we thought it would only be right for a very close friend of his to write a few words too:

Not with Von! With Von - everyone who knew him has said one thing ‘I’m heartbroken’.

(Even though right now he’s blagged a guest list to meet God and will be talking about music, art, style, love and asking, “Do you know so and so who’s best mates with so and so does that thing with so and so”???!)

Von gave a piece of himself to everyone he met, so much so that we all feel special.

Von really loved and lived every heartbeat of his life.

He was an avid collector …

He collected people.

All of ‘Von's people’ have one thing in common (apart from Von) ‘LOVE’.

You see, Von gave love so effortlessly that it resonated and passed on between all who knew him.

Von has left two amazing children to be with us and to celebrate his life

Von asked us all to look after Tobias and Charlotte - and the next thing to sort out is a

funeral … Von lived every day as his last and completely forgot we might need a

tomorrow :)
