Hong's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Hong   is a 54 years old, loving and devoted father of two and husband. He’s always participating in his children’s sporting and school activities, especially for his daughter, Linley, he is always there for her caddying and often travel interstates with her for all the golfing tournaments.  He is also a well-known construction cost economist and has been in the industry for almost 30 years. He has contributed to many important developments in Victoria and Regional areas including many hospitals, schools, sport stadiums, high raise offices and apartments. He has also lectured at Monash University to share his expertise with the students and often mentor the others, especially the young entrepreneurs and less experienced in the industry.

Life was full of promising futures and positive goals, but suddenly his family life and priorities have totally changed.

Last October,  Hong fainted.  Since then,  he started to get tingling from the temple down to his chin. There were no obvious symptoms, only ringing in the ear, and occasional nose bleeds.

Every night, Hong is getting severe pain in the head and sharp electric pain on the chin and cheek.

The best way to detect this type of cancer is to visit the ear and throat specialist, using the endoscopy to check.

On 3rd of July 2017, Hong was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma- stage 4. Nasopharyngeal cancer is cancer cells forming in the tissues between the upper part of the throat and behind the nose. As the cancer cannot be operated on, radiation and chemotherapy were suggested to be used concurrently.  Professor Corry, who is Hong’s oncologist for the radiation and is a leading physician in this type of cancer, has given her prognosis of to have a 50/50 chance of survival rate in the next 5 years and he may be blind on the right eye, and deaf on the right ear as the result of the side effect from the radiation.

Devastated but determined to find the best treatment available, in quest to save his life and the future quality of life, the Proton Beam Therapy was mentioned by the Professor Corry. She has referred to her colleague, Dr Steven Frank at the MD Anderson in Texas.  The Proton Beam Therapy can significantly increase the survival rate to 70% and has a great probability to save his eye and ear and reduce the severity of damaging many other important functions of his neck and face, such as the salivary glands and muscle function after the radiation treatment.

Proton Beam Therapy was the answer of the prayer, but the costs were extremely high.  Estimated at US$207,000 (for the radiation along) and 3 to 6 months of treatment period in Texas with family reside in US and all other medical treatments will need to be paid in full with no subsidy from the US government. The financial burden can possibly delay or put a stop to the Proton treatment.

That is why we are seeking fund raising for Hong, as he is a man of hardworking with great expertise and have so much more to contribute to the society and his family.

Your generous donation will aid his family and could save his life. If you’re unable to donate, please share this post to as many friends as you can, to help raise the funds for his life saving treatment.
