For the past 26 years, our dad showed up at Hong Garden, our family's restaurant, to serve Paoli and the surrounding neighborhoods. Our customers became part of our family who we cherished sharing life's little moments with. And during the ongoing pandemic, our little team was especially proud to be an essential business and to provide nourishment to our community.
On Saturday night, July 25, 2020, a fire broke out and tore through the kitchen of the restaurant. The exact cause of the fire is being determined. To our extreme relief, no individuals were hurt. Our neighbor saw sparks in the kitchen and quickly called for help. Six fire companies came to the rescue. The damage to the interior is extensive from floor to ceiling and it will be many months before we can even explore the possibility of reopening. Furthermore, we are saddened to report that our many fish, popular with kids and adults alike, did not survive. We were unable to get inside the restaurant until a day and a half after the fire.
We are launching this fundraising campaign because we want to help our dad. As many of you know, our mother, who also was fixture at Hong Garden, passed away a few years ago after a long-hard fought battle with cancer. She was beloved by many, and the restaurant was one of the last places where her memory lived on for us.
Your contributions will go directly toward providing financial relief to our staff members who have lost their jobs suddenly amidst this COVID-19 pandemic and to offset the cost of cleaning up and restoring the space destroyed by the fire. Every dollar raised will help us achieve our goal and will be a way to show our dad the community's support for Hong Garden.
