Homegoing for Chris Roberts

The purpose of this campaign is to raise funds for the expenses associated with the medical care, funerary preparations, memorial service and burial of Christopher Shannon Roberts.

If there has been one thing that 2020 has proven, it’s that life can change drastically in the literal blink of an eye; it is not promised. While COVID-19 has become our greatest fear, it is not the only thing lurking in the shadows.

In the very early morning hours of December 9th, 2020, we suddenly and unexpectedly lost our beloved Christopher Shannon Roberts to a lethal combination of pre-existing conditions. My Uncle Chris battled with severe asthma his entire life, and still managed to be an elite athlete. He was always up to challenge one of the teenagers in the family  to a footrace, and until this past summer, I never saw him lose.

He was an entrepreneurial spirit, with a passion for life and a drive to achieve whatever goals he set his mind too. He was a tradesman, and over many summers of working with (and being fired by) him detailing automobiles in the Northern Virginia area, he instilled in me an irreplaceable sense of pride in my work and resiliency that has served me in work, fatherhood and faith.

A few years back, he was diagnosed with diabetes, and made major changes to his lifestyle and diet to try to combat the effects of the disease. It appeared he had achieved his goal, but the extreme stress placed on his respiratory system by a high spike in his blood sugar, and exacerbated by his chronic asthma, ultimately resulted in his untimely demise at only 53 years old

Uncle Chris had become the glue of our family; he did all that he could to make sure we all got together for the holidays to enjoy the love and company of one another. He had just planned for us all to gather the day after Christmas, which I hope and pray we are able to do in celebration of his life after he has been laid to rest.

If you knew my Uncle Chris, then you know that his laughter was infectious. You know that he was imperfect, but honest. You know that he gained wisdom from both his successes and failures, and wasn’t shy about sharing.

We thank you in advance for your care and contributions. Please keep the family uplifted in prayer.

Feel free to send condolences, any anecdotes about Chris, and/or photos to the family.
