After enjoying an abundant life, Eddie Ray Haney-55, of Kearney, Mo., went peacefully with God on June 7, 2017. He was born to Edgar and Freda Haney, formerly of Kansas City, in 1961. He graduated Winnetonka High School in 1980 and then attended UMKC. In his teen years, Eddie Ray enjoyed riding motorcycles and crisscrossed the United States with his good buddies, Burt and Craig.
He spent most of his lifelong vocation as a glazier with the family business, H & H Glass Company, where he was known for his honesty, hard work, and great sense of humor.
When not traveling or planning the next journey, he was an avid sports fan, particularly of baseball and hockey. He delighted in traveling with friend and 1980 “Miracle on Ice” team member Ken Morrow to share in Morrow’s experiences as a professional hockey scout!
In later years, photography and travel went hand in hand. Most often you would see Ed with a camera or two around his neck as he gained proficiency in his hobby. His two favorite photo subjects were his family and the nationally touring a cappella group, Home Free.
Community service was also important to him-he served as a member of the Kearney School Board for 11 years and Kearney Park Board for 21 years. He was also a member and past trustee of The Paradise United Methodist Church in Paradise, Mo.
An activist for education, he was an avid proponent for the AFS foreign exchange students’ program and treated its participants like family.
Ed is survived by his parents, Edgar and Freda Haney of Polo; wife, Lisa Haney of Kearney; sister, Vickie Watts (Dan) of Kansas City; son, Curtis Treaster (Trish) of Kearney; grandsons, Gabe and Severin Treaster; niece Samantha Reid(Tim) of Mount Vernon; and nephews, Joe Watts of Kansas City and Rob Galloway (Meryle) of St. Louis.
Even in his last days, while feeling ill, he was more concerned with the well-being of others. Family fun and making sure customers were happy remained top priorities.
