Hollywood Fringe Festival: Haiku

Hello! I had the great pleasure of directing my first show this past winter entitled, Haiku. Haiku is about family, faith and miracles. Louise is a young woman with Autism who is at brief intervals miraculously “normal” and sometimes so super normal that she speaks in beautiful haiku poetry. Her mother, Nell, has published the poems under her own name. When an older daughter, Billie, visits, she refuses to believe that her Louise composed the extraordinary poems. The issues of compassion and understanding are evident in this heartwarming one-act.
My cast (Morgan Abbott a.k.a. River Moon, Christina McGrath, Brianna Saranchock) and I put on the show at our school, Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy, and we couldn't have asked for a better run. It was an experience we will never forget.
We all feel that we need to share this story with the Los Angeles community during this year's Hollywood Fringe Festival. I think it's extremely important to share beautiful pieces of art and to showcase work that was written by a woman, directed by a woman, and features an all female cast.
Putting on a show for the Hollywood Fringe Festival is not an easy task and requires a lot of time, energy, and money. Any money donated would go towards: a registration fee, paying the stage manager, insurance, each performance done at the venue, guide ads, and promotion. I have until the month of May to come up with the money and any support you want to lend will be greatly appreciated by myself and my cast. We can't wait to go on this new and exciting adventure. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
