Holiday Help-Raiser for Krista by Hair Experience

We have all had a rough 2020. As small business owners, we certainly get that! Historically, this is the time of year to remember others who have greater challenges and needs than ours, through no fault of their own. It has always been the time of year we make an effort to actually do something to help others; not just because it makes US feel better about ourselves, but because sometimes others are going through a really hard time and could really use a helping hand! This Holiday Help-Raiser is for one such deserving family.
Krista has been with our salon for 4.5 years, and has been a model employee. She is in extremely high demand as a hair stylist, because she serves each and every guest with kindness and excellence, as well as working as hard as anyone behind the chair with the special talents and gifts she has been given.
In November, her 10-year-old daughter Addison suddenly became quite ill. Krista took her to the doctor, who quickly sent her on to Children’s Hospital. Her daughter ended up in ICU for several days in a state of Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Addison was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes and their lives have now changed forever. Krista and her family are very strong, and have not asked for help from anyone. They are simply accepting the challenge and dealing with it head-on as they always have.
Along with the coming medical debt from Addison’s Diabetes diagnosis (and a new year of new out-of-pocket costs and insurance deductibles getting ready to begin), Krista’s work hours have also had to change. She is now working 32 hours less per month, as she can no longer work evenings or Saturdays, in order to be there to help her daughter adjust to new diets, new routines, fluctuating blood sugar levels and insulin shots four times per day . Her income has been reduced while at the same time her bills have increased, which is not a good combination!
Hopefully, within six months or so, Addison can have an insulin pump implanted to help make her life a little easier and perhaps even allow Krista to work her former hours to help provide more for her family. Right now, work hours are the least of her worries, however. Her daughter’s blood sugar levels are still like a roller coaster ride through hell as they try to figure out the best diet, eating schedule, etc. for Addison’s unique needs.
In addition to Addison's diabetes diagnosis, earlier this summer, her 12-year-old son Landon was sent to Children’s Hospital for extensive testing regarding a health issue, leaving her family with $3000 of medical debt that we are including in this GoFundMe.
We are setting up this Help-Raiser so that funds will go directly into Krista’s family’s bank account. We’ve all heard about third parties trying to take advantage of those going through a trial… this certainly isn’t that! Our initial goal is $7500 to help pay off her son’s medical debt from this summer, cover some of her loss of income for the next few months, as well as allow her to start saving for the new medical bills that should begin arriving any day now for all of her daughter’s recent and ongoing expenses.
Every little bit helps, so if you can make a donation… whether it’s $5, $10, $20 or any amount that feels “right” to you, Krista will wisely and carefully use it with great appreciation! This year is different from most years, as we ALL will likely not be celebrating with as many people or buying as many presents as usual. So we would ask that you consider taking a small portion of what you would have spent on gifts for this worthy cause.
