Holes in the Sky Medical Relief

As some may know, my husband Bryon ("Holes in the Sky" as he known in the duck hunting world) had an extremely close call in December/January due to complications with COVID. Bryon's oxygen levels dropped on Christmas Eve, and I drove him to the ER. Little did I know, that would be the last time our kids and I would be physically able to be near him for over a month. He was sent upstairs to the COVID unit where his levels crashed during the night and was transferred to the ICU. In the ICU is where he started the fight of his life (and that is saying something for someone who has served in multiple third-world countries). 

 

He spent almost two weeks in the ICU fighting this awful thing called COVID. Fortunately, I was able to communicate with and see Bryon through a glass window as he was quarantined, but the kids were not allowed, which was hard on them. Then came the day no wife wants to hear, the ICU Dr. saying your husband's oxygen levels are too low and will need to be intubated. It was a grim outlook at this point, and the odds of surviving were low. He was medevac/life flighted to a special COVID hospital where he remained on the ventilator for 11 days. Eleven days in which we did not know if he would ever be home again. Then, finally, on the 11th day, we received the call that he was awake! This started the rough, tough, long road to recovery, which he is still on. From being released from hospital to home (which he was not ready for) to in-patient rehab to home therapy, he is still fighting his way to a new normal.

 

While we are fortunate to have his retired Army medical, COVID is a different animal and who knows what the future holds for him. He is a "long hauler" now, and we still do not know if he will require oxygen for the rest of his life. He is seeing multiple specialists due to the damage COVID has left him with. He gets exhausted just walking down the hall. So any financial support, be it what it may, will be truly appreciated and put away for his now uncertain future. Bryon is always willing to help a friend, no questions asked. I remember times he would call me about helping one of his soldiers, whether it was to have the soldier over for dinner, give the soldier a ride... he would always help those he saw needed help in life. So having you help him (when he still doesn't think he deserves it) would mean even more!

Thank you to all the members who kept Bryon in their prayers, those who texted for updates (even though I may have been like "who is this" lol) and sent him and me words of encouragement. As a family we are extremely thankful for your support.
