This is no doubt a hard time for everyone at the moment.
The threat of the global pandemic surrounding COVID-19 has been terrifying for all.
In the midst of it all, the thought of having to selfishly ask for help whilst on holidays isn't lost on me, especially whilst so many people are suffering loss of income at this time.
THE STORY...
Jack and I got married last year and decided to take our honeymoon in the new year, while we sorted out work commitments and arrangements for our kids. Jack also has a chronic illness which required a lot of planning around doctors and medications before we travelled.
Taking a holiday is no doubt a luxury, but we worked really hard to be able to have a few weeks off.
We flew to Paris on the 9th of March with the hopes of enjoying 3 weeks travelling France, Spain and Morocco together. Soon after we arrived, we were notified that our flights and accomodation to Spain would be cancelled as the country went into lockdown. This was then followed by Morocco.
We have lost almost $4000 on these trips so far. Most of which we will not be able to recover due to travel insurance legislation surrounding the virus.
NOW
We are still in Paris, with the French President last night announcing full lockdown of the city. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has also issued advice recommending Australians abroad who wish to return home do so as soon as possible via commercial flights.
We are safe, but we need to get home ASAP where we will be required to self isolate for 2 weeks before we can see our kids again...
WHAT WE NEED
Currently, our flights home for the 29th March have been cancelled and we are needing to book additional flights to get home.
The cheapest at the moment are around $3600 for both of us, which we simply don't have.
Not to mention returning home to have the next 6 months of income drastically decreased due to cancellations of events and work for me as a freelancer...
It isn't easy having to reach out and ask for help at this time, but we need it, and any help is going to make such a big difference.
