Himalaya Expedition

Donation protected
I am raising money to fund a leadership training programme with British Exploring Society. This will culminate with me leading a group of 16-25 year olds in the Indian Himalayas in June - August 2018.

British Exploring Society is a charity that gives young people the opportunity to get out and explore some of the world's most spectacular wildernesses and, in doing  so, develop their understanding of the world and of themselves.

I view my opportunity to be a part of this fantastic charity as a key to unlocking an exciting future for myself, and for those that I will be leading this summer. I believe that through adventure people can realise their full potential and go on to do great things for themselves and the world. I have been lucky enough to travel to some fantastic places during my formative years and those experiences were integral in shaping the person I am today. I would now like to help other young people have some of the experiences I have been lucky enough to have.

British Exploring believes in "adventure with a purpose" and it is this ethos that attracted me to their expeditions. Our expedition will be science focused, we will be carrying out field studies to investigate the impact of climate change on the water resources of the region. The weather, glaciers, rivers, landforms and lakes will be studied. Additionally, we will be investigating the geology and studying the Himalayan flora. We will also be carrying out projects looking at personal growth as a result of the expedition experience, and the impact of high altitude environments on the physiology of the participants.

The Trainee Leader programme will be carried out over a seven-month period made up of four training phases prior to expedition. Over the course of the Programme I will gain an Off-site Safety Management course, Level 1 National Water Safety Management Programme, an Expedition First Aid Qualification, and the Mountain Leader (Summer) Training Course delivered by the National Mountain Centre. This will culminate in six weeks on a wilderness expedition in the Indian Himalayas, putting my learning into practice.

A breakdown of the deadlines for deposits I must meet are as follows:

16/03/2018
Stage Payment 1: £1,600

16/04/2018
Stage Payment 2: £1,600

18/05/2018
Stage Payment 3: £1,550

Flights will cost approximately £1,000 and will need to be purchased 4 months prior to my departure on 20/07/2018.

I will be running races, hosting supper clubs, putting on pub quizzes, volunteering and anything else I (or you!) can think of to raise the cash.

Any contribution is welcome and hugely appreciated. The months ahead are going to be busy and at times gruelling - but definitely worth it. Your money will be going towards something that will develop not only me but the young people I will be leading.

Please help me reach the roof of the world!
