Hilo Rojo - los niños necesitan ustedes

This March 2020 I visited Hilo Rojo, an NGO in Trujillo, Peru, with the aim to offer education and support to children and their families that live in one of the poorest and most dangerous neigbourhoods of Trujillo. While my plan was to stay here for almost two months, things turned out different. Because of the current pandemic, we cannot be in contact with the children anymore. It is a heartbreaking situation, like there will be plenty more all over the world right now. I have been teaching at Hilo Rojo only for 1 week, and I am thankful for meeting the beautiful strong children of Hilo Rojo. Kids with small dreams, but big hearts, that deserve to learn, to grow, to be loved. I truly believe that if we all work together, stay calm, try to listen to each other, we can make things better. For the sake of us, of the earth and especially for the kids.

Because I cannot help Hilo Rojo right now with teaching the children, I would like to use my privileges in another way, by asking you, my friends, family, colleagues, to make a donation to Hilo Rojo. It can be as small or big as you want it do be, every cent counts. With the donations, we can buy the kids schoolsupplies and lunch, improve the school area (new wooden classrooms, a special classroom for children with disabilities, bathrooms) and the classmaterial (we are in need of computers and books), invest in activities for the children and in the teachers that are desperately needed.
