Hallo! Ich bin Tamara Ghalia und befinde mich in der schwierigen Situation, für Palästina-Aktivismus €6.037 Schadenersatz an den österreichischen Staat zahlen zu müssen. Diese Summe übersteigt meine momentanen finanziellen Möglichkeiten bei Weitem und bringt mich in eine sehr belastende Lage. 

Am 02.01.2026 war ich gemeinsam mit einer Gruppe von Wien nach Linz unterwegs, um an einer angemeldeten Palästina Kundgebung teilzunehmen. Bereits am Bahnsteig warteten Polizeibeamte auf uns und folgten uns in die Unterführung des Linzer Hbf. Ein konkretes Verhalten, eine Gefahrensituation oder ein Verdacht gegen uns wurden zu keinem Zeitpunkt erwähnt. Wir wurden eingekesselt und aufgefordert, uns auszuweisen. 

Da ich meine Rechte kannte, gab ich meine Identität nicht preis. In weiterer Folge wurde ich von zwei Polizeibeamtinnen gegen eine Wand gedrückt und anschließend am Boden fixiert. Während ich am Boden fixiert war, bekam ich keine Luft. Ich wiederholte dies mehrfach und bat eine Polizeibeamtin, meinen Schal zu lockern. Erst nachdem meine Kollegin die Polizeibeamtin nochmals darum bat, kam sie dieser Aufforderung nach. 

Bei dieser Situation hat sich eine der Polizistinnen anscheinend verletzt. Infolgedessen bin ich jetzt gezwungen, Schadenersatz zu zahlen - an die Polizistin persönlich (€1.050, davon habe ich schon €500 mit Hilfe bezahlen können) UND an den Staat Österreich (€5.487) für ihren Krankenstand.

Gegen die Identitätsfeststellung wurde übrigens von einer anderen Aktivistin aus derselben Gruppe erfolgreich Maßnahmenbeschwerde eingereicht. Die Maßnahme wurde in diesem Fall also als rechtswidrig eingestuft (Urteil noch nicht rechtskräftig).

Was ich als österreichisch-palästinensische Aktivistin dazu denke, wie gerecht diese Bestrafung dafür ist, dass ich von der Polizei so behandelt wurde, und meine Gedanken dazu, welche Taktik Polizei und Staat hier gegenüber einer ganzen Bewegung verfolgen, könnt ihr euch wahrscheinlich denken, ich möchte dazu sicherheitshalber nicht viel sagen. Jedenfalls muss ich jetzt mehr Geld aufbringen, als mir persönlich möglich ist. 

Mit eurer Hilfe möchte ich es erreichen, diese finanzielle Last zu bewältigen und einen neuen Anfang zu schaffen. Jeder Beitrag – egal wie klein – hilft und macht einen Unterschied.

Hi! I’m Tamara Ghalia, an Austrian-Palestinian activist, and I’m currently in the difficult situation of having to pay €6.037 of damages to the Austrian State. This is much more than I can currently afford, and I have to ask for help from the wider community to get through this.

On 2 January 2026, I went to Linz with a group of activists to participate in a registered Palestine protest. Police were already waiting for us in the Linz train station. Although no behaviour on our part or dangerous situation of any sort was cited as a reason, police kettled us and demanded identification.

I was aware of my rights as and did not identify to police. As a result, two officers pinned me against a wall and then held me down on the floor. I was not able to breathe in this position, but after repeatedly asking an officer to loosen my scarf, she only did so after a fellow protester stepped in.

One of the police officers was apparently hurt in this course of events. As a result, I have to pay damages to the officer personally (€1,050, of which 500 are already fundraised) and to the state for the time the officer spent in paid sick leave (€5,487).

Another activist from the group that I was traveling with successfully filed a legal complaint against the police identification, so this action by police was found illegal in court (although this judgement is not yet legally binding - "Urteil nicht rechtskräftig").

You can probably guess my opinions and thoughts, as an Austrian-Palestinian Activist, about the fairness of punishing me for how I was treated by police, and about what strategy the state and police are pursuing against the larger Palestine movement - to be on the safe side, I don’t want to say more about this now. What is most important for me right now is to be able to pay the fine, which is much more than I can personally afford.
