Hijabs for Hurdles

I am Sarah Bland and I work for an inner city Charter School in Mpls. MN Transitions Charter School District has a few K-12 seat based programs that serve Mpls and the surrounding areas. Our student body is a melting pot of MN residents working towards their education. As a school district with such a variety of culture we try to equip our schools with all the proper tools necessary to include every student in every activity. Unfortunately school funding does not always allow us to purchase the items we feel our students would benefit from. Securing athletic equipment  for every individual student is not always in our budget even though we'd like to. Twenty-six percent of our seat based student body is made up of Somalian females. Due to cultural  restrictions these females have to take extra precautions when joining in on certain athletic activities. We want to provide a more inclusive  approach to recruiting for school sports/activities and we want every student to feel welcome to trying any athletic opportunity without additional hurdles in their way. Our goal is to obtain at least 40 Athletic Hijabs to kick off our girls in sports campaign.
