Non Profit Bookstore Needs a Home

Donation protected
High rental costs force non-profit bookstore to move. Your support can change everything. Help Hidden Gems purchase a building for the nation's non-profit community bookstore.

Hidden Gems has given free books, educational resources, and literary programming to thousands of children and adults around the world. Without a permanent location, their ability to serve the community will be severely hindered.

“In the short time Hidden Gems Literary Emporium has been open, countless lives have been touched by their service…[They’ve] created this oasis for other kids…It’s an organization that we should all look for and try to help out.”
Jenna Bush Hager, The Today Show

Over 500 people attended the Hidden Gems grand opening at Above Art Studios art gallery in New Brunswick, NJ. Sadly, and unfortunately, exorbitant rental costs have displaced the art gallery, and thus Hidden Gems, forcing the non-profit bookstore to find a home elsewhere.

Your contribution will show the world that you R.E.A.D— Recognize Education Activates Dedication.

With your help, this unique literary arts space will safeguard and expand the educational efforts of a non-profit bookstore whose work empowers children and adults to fall and stay in love with reading.

Hidden Gems' service work includes building libraries for schools, traveling the country giving away thousands of free books, offering fun, literary programming for countless schools and communities, and so much more.

As stewards of literary preservation, Hidden Gems has been entrusted with several priceless collections—thousands of books donated in the name of someone who has passed on.

Their work has been celebrated on global news platforms like The Today Show, CNN, Fox Business, and more.

This location will also be utilized for Hideen Gems' weekly food distribution program, which has distributed over 4 million pounds of food to New Brunswick residents and seniors.

Allocation of funds:
$800,000+ to purchase the property $300,000 for renovations and upgrades

I am Kaila Boulware Sykes, the co-founder of Hidden Gems Literary Emporium. This labor of love started with $30 and a prayer after our family was discriminated against at a bookstore. To see how it has grown in such a short amount of time has been one of the greatest joys of my life. As a nonprofit bookstore that is completely sustained by community support, Hidden Gems is a true testament to what kindness, community, and collaboration can do. I am both humbled and honored to be a witness to the many ways our work has touched people’s lives. I implore you, \ please support and share this fundraiser. Your small act of kindness truly makes a big difference. Please connect with us on social media (@HiddenGemsLiteraryEmprium) on any social media platform and visit our website for more information. We encourage anyone and everyone to reach out to us with ideas, inquiries, and words of encouragement.

With love and literacy,
