All Abilities Sparkle Squad

Members of the Hannibal High School varsity cheer and dance teams have started a "Sparkle Squad," an all-abilities, inclusive dance and cheer team. The Sparkle Squad consists of current varsity dance and cheer team members, as well as students with physical and developmental disabilities. The students work in mentor/mentee pairs to create a more inclusive school environment while learning dance and cheer routines to perform at Varsity Basketball games and other community functions. This project was inspired by the national non-profit organization, The Sparkle Effect, which has encouraged the creation of all-abilities dance and cheer teams across the nation. 
In order to make this vision a reality, we need your help! The Sparkle Squad will need uniforms, pom pons, and additional funds to help off-set the costs of activities throughout the year. Please help us make Hannibal High School a more inclusive place for students of all abilities!

Update: The HHS Sparkle Squad held our first practice on Wednesday, January 7th. We have 2 team leaders from the dance team, and 10 additional varsity cheer and dance team members paired with students of all abilities who participate in our special education programs. Our first performance will be at the Varsity Basketball game on Saturday, January 31st at Korf Gymnasium. You can also check us out on KHQA on Friday, January 16th and in the Quincy Herald-Whig in the near future!
