Holy Family Catholic School 7th grade Odyssey of the Mind (OM) team won 1st place in the OM Florida State Tournament and are advancing to the World Finals at Iowa State University the week of May 21st. There were a total of 820 teams across the state of Florida, 263 of those teams advanced to the State Tournament, and now 31 are advancing to World Finals! These girls rocked the tournament and worked very hard to win!
With airfare at $600 along with dorm room & board fees at $655 per student, the team needs to raise a large amount of money in a short amount of time.
OM is a creative thinking problem-solving competition that prepares students to exceed in the real world. By encouraging creative paths to problem-solving, students learn skills that will provide them with the ability to solve problems for a lifetime. There are two parts to the competition, one is an eight-minute performance that the students start working on about 8 months in advance to solve a long-term problem. The second part is spontaneous where the students are told the problem minutes before they need to solve it.
