Chase and Cole's medical expenses

CHASE & COLE

After several months of bed rest, Krista and Pat Hertzel welcomed two little identical bundles of joy, Chase and Cole to their family on April 10, 2013.  These boys quickly stole the hearts of their parents, siblings, (Noah, Jesse and Leila), friends and family.  Chase and Cole were so anxious to join the family, they were born prematurely and were both diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot syndrome and required extended hospital care.  The Hertzel family knew this journey would have twists and turns as both boys would require heart surgery at some point.  Tetralogy is a congenital heart defect, which is four defects; a constricting of the pulmonary vessel, a hole between the ventricles of the heart (VSD) and if not repaired an enlarged heart and a displacement of the aortic vessel.  This defect leads to a lack of oxygenated blood.

At only six months of age, Cole had his first open-heart surgery.  .  His recovery went well, , but due to an anatomical anomaly, the surgeons were only able to do a partial repair at that time and told his parents he will continue to need repairs to his heart as he continues to grow.

Both boys receive ongoing cardiology care and recently, the family was told that both boys needed open-heart surgery in the near future.   Chase is scheduled for his surgery on February 11, 2015 and Cole will have his second surgery in the spring or summer of 2015.  We are praying that this will be Chase’s only surgery, but we know Cole will have to have additional procedures through his life and eventually a valve replacement.

The Hertzel’s are a hard-working, loving, compassionate family who often assists others in need and always approach life with a positive outlook.  Their commitment to providing the best possible family life for their children serves as an inspiration to many.  Unfortunately, medical bills, starting prenatally, have been and will continue to be astronomical for the family and while they wouldn’t ask, they could use your help.

Please consider a donation of any amount to help them with both medical and child care expenses during this difficult time.  Also, please remember Chase and Cole in your thoughts and prayers and they undergo this next part of their journey.

On behalf of Krista’s parents, Rick and Joyce Restivo, siblings, Jessica, Monica and Shauna; Pat’s brother, Tim and his wife Rebecca Hertzel, sister Danielle Hertzel, and all of our extended families we thank you for every contribution and every prayer.
