As many of you already know, our family got life changing news on September 5, 2017. Our father Herman was Diagnosed with Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer. He has under went the Chemo and Radiation that prepaired him for the major Esophagectomy surgery to remove his tumor in March.
March 1, we entered MD Anderson Cooper
where it took over 8 hours for this surgery, taking out the tumor, and esophagus and used his stomach as a replacement. Also the removal of Lymph nodes, where cancer cells had shown, during this some scraping of his Heart and Lungs needed to be done to remove what cancer left behind and instead of trying to scrape or mess with his spleen in any way, the surgeons decided to go ahead and just simply remove it all together.
However, due to this scrapping, theory is, it may have been the cause of what was to come... Herman spent the next 18 days in the hospital for “Persistent Air Leaks” in his lungs, it started with his left side collapsed, that required a chest tube, then the Right side followed. After some time to heal, they tried to remove them, and the Right side collapsed again.
He then required a surgical procedure called Endobronchial Valve Placement to help keep lung up.
This helped keep his lung from collapsing.
Now, after 18, days Herman is home improving and getting stronger every single day. Still on his Tube feeds, but each week the doctors allow different diet changes that allow his body to try to eat and swallow something new.
On April 27th, he will go back in to same day surgery for Bronchoscopy to remove what they placed to inflate the lungs..
we are certainly very hopeful that he’s been doing fine and should continue to do so,
But these medical bills, and all the traveling that was done took a toll. The delivery of the feeding and supplies and travel every week for follow ups for his continued care, not including his physical therapy and home care.
We appreciate All that people have done and continue to do, So Thank You so
very Much !!! Request of help is still desperately needed, so much of this cost is just not covered and any help is so appreciated.
