Henry Higgs Graduation

Many of you remember the tragic events of September 2006 that took the life of our good friend Doug Higgs. Through the support of his friends and family, his wife Krissy and their almost 1 year old son Henry were comforted in their time of grief. Many of you helped with moral and/or financial support. And for that Krissy was always very grateful.

They stayed in the lower Delaware area for a couple years but decided a change would make sense to help Krissy deal with her grief. They moved to the Gulf Coast of Florida where they lived a simple life. Henry grew up there enjoying the beach and playing sports much like his dad used to.

Bad news came to us, though, in November of last year when Krissy died suddenly of a heart attack in their apartment home. Sadly, Henry found her in bed when he got home from school.

Henry is now a senior in high school and is getting ready to graduate on May 19. As you may guess, he's really independent, smart and hard working like his father was.

He plans to attend Florida Atlantic University in the fall. He has two years paid college through a grant from Florida. It does not include Books or housing. He's working full-time so he and his buddies can rent a place off campus. We're looking to raise money towards his books and tuition for this year and future years, but any contributions will be very helpful.

Doug was my roommate for 5 years after college and was my best friend until the day he died. I think about him often. I know he impacted a lot of people's lives for the better. It would be great if we can continue to honor Doug and Krissy's friendship and memory by helping out Henry. He's a great young man without the support of his parents. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. I would also encourage everyone to share any stories about Doug that would help Henry understand and embrace who his father was.
