Hemochromatosis Medical Bills
Donation protected
On December 4, 2019 I was diagnosed with hemochromatosis. It's a genetic blood disorder I'll have my whole life in which my body stores up too much iron and can damage all my organs unless I have regular lengthy bloodlettings. My iron content, which should be between 50-150 is currently 823. In addition to the huge logistical and financial burdens this will medically place on me, I have an extreme phobia of needles and currently am psychologically incapable of doing the medical treatment I need. I am planning on intense therapy over the next couple of months to try to help my needle phobia with my regular therapist, my regular psychiatrist, and a phobia specialist. My brand new health insurance doesn't cover anything until I spend $3,500 so all these therapy appointments will be $100-$200 each. A single visit to the hematologist specialist will be $734 and I’m not sure how often I’ll need rechecks. I also don’t know how much the bloodletting will cost but can update when I know. I also will likely need to take time off to accommodate appointments with specialists who have limited availability. I'm also needing to pay for anti-anxiety medications and skin numbing creams to try to help my phobia. Anything you can give is helpful so I can focus on treating my phobia and then blood disorder instead of figuring out how I'm going to pay for it is much appreciated. Thank you!
