Hi my name is Bella and I'm 19 years old.
On July 19th 2017, I went to the local clinic for a check up and the Nurse Practitioner found a lump in my neck on my thyroid gland. I was sent for an ultrasound of my thyroid on July 24th. I was then recommended to see a surgeon who would decide the next procedure. A needle biopsy of the tumor was set for August 4th. The needle bx was positive for cancer and the surgeon recommended I have surgery right away. I had a total thyroidectoy with lymph node dissection on August 11th, Friday. Today, August 23rd, I went to get the pathology report which confirmed all 10 nodes were positive. Now I'm being referred to the Oncologist for a total body scan and then radioactive iodine therapy.
I also recently discovered that my health insurance was not sufficient to cover some of these expenses. I've taken a medical leave from college and am currently living with my Mom in Colorado. The funds donated are needed for medical expenses and treatments, living expenses, and travel to and from the hospital. I would also like to see a Functional Medicine Doctor to help with an immune support regime and balancing my thyroid hormone medication. This cost is all out of pocket. I'm not one to ask for money but any offerings are greatly appreciated as well as virtual hugs, prayers and good energy. The appointments to the Functional Medicine Doctor are on hold, but if funded, I could begin this therapy to build up my immune system in preparation for the radiation in 6 weeks.
