Help Tristan Fight Ewing Sarcoma

Donation protected

Tristan, my son, who just turned 14 years old, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer on August 2nd. Ewing's sarcoma is a cancer that affects mainly children and adolescents. It is relatively uncommon, accounting for only 1% of all childhood cancers.

Ewing’s usually presents in the long bones of adolescents. Tristan's has presented in his right lung, making it even more rare and requiring a more aggressive treatment plan. He has a tumor occupying almost his entire right lung (completely undetectable by his recent school physical and normal doctor's visit just 3 weeks ago). The doctors have no idea how he was playing soccer, baseball or swimming on essentially one lung. But then again, that's my son for you... the kid who doesn't know how to quit.

Tristan has begun chemotherapy at John Hopkins Children's Center. Unfortunately, he was just informed that he will not be allowed to start his freshman year in high school with all his friends, which was shocking and heart breaking for him. Sports is also not an option for Tristan for at least the next year or two.

Doctors would like Tristan to stay physically and mentally active during his treatment. However, his treatments have already begun to take a toll on his body and muscles. He's been experiencing weakness, nauseousness and will lose most of his muscle strength which prevent him from most of his regular activities. Even short walks at times will seem too much so we are trying to research realistic options that allow him to get around our almost 4 acre property when he's feeling well and make it through the the heavily wooded areas. That's the fun he's been looking forward to!

We're setting up this GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of medical expenses and equipment to ease his mobility which may not be covered under insurance. Our goal is to get him his own recliner for the house to be comfortable in after chemotherapy treatments, get him a seated ATV (or something similar)to be able to get around on our property - yes our driveway is a half a mile long just to get to our house and we'd like to get him additional tutors for high school since the county only supports 6 hours a week for 2 core subjects. Tristan is an honors student so we want to make sure he is still afforded the opportunity to keep his studies up during this time to the greatest extent possible.
We'd like for him to be able to stay in touch with any of his friends and old teammates that he can so please feel free to send messages to [email redacted]. As you all know we are originally from Texas where all of our family still resides so the support and prayers you have provided thus far has made him feel as if we are back in our home state - so a huge thank you for the love you have shown and continue to show my son!

While we greatly appreciate any donation, please know your prayers mean more to us than anything else during this time. Thank you for your support!
