Our dear son Timothy (Timmy) really need all your love and support with his growth. Timmy was born with cerebral palsy with damage throughout the whole brain and in particular, the corpus callosum that connects the left brain to the right.
Timmy's journey started out rough. His brain was damaged as early as when he was inside the womb. At the time, we had no idea. When Timmy was nine months old, we started noticing areas of growth delays. He could not crawl. He could not sit. His muscles were very weak. He could not even call his mommy or daddy.
This is when we started seeking professional help and realized the extent of the problem. The key, according to the neurologist, is to provide sufficient therapies in order to build new brain pathways as early as possible. We needed to act fast.
Our immediate action was to find help. Unfortunately, due to the dire state of the economy, there was very limited help we could get locally. As parents that was very hard to take-in, knowing that we are running against the clock. From the age of one, we tried whatever we can to give him the therapies he needed with what we can afford, mostly out of our own pocket.
At the age of three, Timmy was still not walking. We decided to pour in the last of our $7,000 savings into intensive therapy. For two weeks straight, Timmy had hours of physical therapy each day. That was very hard work for Timmy. However, Timmy went from barely standing against a flat surface to being able to walk 10 whole steps! That was amazing to us; a confirmation that perhaps given more help, Timmy could be walking and skipping around.
It’s been 7 months since the intensive and Timmy is making slow gains. Walking is hard for cerebral palsy kids. But we are hopeful that walking independently is a reachable goal for Timmy.
Timmy will be turning 4 years old in April 2015. We are campaigning to help raise funds for two more intensive therapies to help him walk. Each intensive therapy will cost $7,000. Therefore, it is our hope to raise $14,000 to help Timmy. Please consider helping Timmy so he can walk and be a normal child.
