Please Help Our Son Thomas!

Our son Thomas who's 25 years old. Thomas is our only child. After self-medicating for 10 years, he decided to seek out help for his Opiate addiction. As many families that have walked our walk, we know that the addict himself needs to decide when they want help. Thomas finally let us know the help he has been receiving for the last two and half years is not cutting it anymore. He came to us several days ago, that he was ready to stop the insanity & go into a long-term facility. Thomas wants to get in as quickly as possible. Hopefully no later than November 1, 2017
We had tried helping him several times without success. We are stand behind him, but he would have to do the research to find help. Tough love; one of the hardest things a parent can do but the only way. We live on the Outer Banks, NC. There has been very little medical care for addiction. He found a DR in VA Beach VA that started him on Suboxone two and half years ago. He is required to have a Therapist weekly, a Family doctor or a Psychiatrist to be in the program. Thomas has quit, heroin, cigarettes, and pills but has hit a brick wall.

We noticed Thomas had been isolating himself more & more over the last few months (he is still living with us) to the point he does not want to have dinner with us, take a bath etc. We shared our concern and if he was ready to talk we were there.

He decided after talking to his therapist that he needed to go into a long-term treatment care facility. We all are elated that he made this decision. He asked me to work with him to find the right treatment facility to not only deal with his addictions but to see if he is Bipolar, PTSD, Social Anxiety, Poor Impulse Control etc. There are many layers Thomas will be dealing with, A traditional 28-day treatment center will not be enough but a long-term, multi-faceted program is needed. It may take months to a year in treatment.

After looking at a few good facilities as a family, the only one with the most comprehensive plan was “ Origins Behavioral Health Care” on South Padre Island in Texas. You may have heard of it on the Dr. Phil Show. Thomas’ insurance will cover all but $25,000 of his treatment for the first 120 days. We are asking for help from our friends near and far to help us raise the necessary money to get Thomas in as soon as possible.

There was a time Randy and I could have written a check and put him on that plane, but we are living paycheck to paycheck. We feel helpless knowing we can't help him. His treatment while at Origins will consist of:https://www.originsrecovery.com

30-90 Day Residential Drug Treatment Programs
Transitions™ by Origins– Treatment Step-Down Program
MAP™ – Origins’ Monitoring and Accountability Program
Free Lifetime Access to Weekly Origins Alumni Meetings

While Thomas is away Randy & I too will be getting help with integrated family programs that Origins offer which will be also in Texas for 5 days when Thomas & his Doctors feel he is ready. We will also be using Skype on a regular basis with doctors and professionals to help us through this process and beyond. We are so hopeful for Thomas and applaud his decision.

Thomas writes this:

I am currently a 25-year-old, former opiate addict. After 2.5 years of sobriety from them. I find daily tasks to be extremely stressful and have immense anxiety. I’ve also been going to a counselor for 2.5 years.
I thought I was making progress and I did for a while, but after recently losing my job, I find myself without adult coping skills, impulsivity, and anger.
I feel Origins is my last hope to become the man I know I can be. Unfortunately, I still need to come up with $25,000 in order for me to start the process. I am asking for help in the most honest and transparent way I can. I truly need this help and any amount you can give goes above and beyond. Anyone one who supports me will not be let down. This is of my own free will. I have no criminal charges pending or am in any trouble. I am just a young man that knows he needs real help, to become the adult, and man I truly know I can be!

Sincerely,

Thomas
