Get These Girls a Community Center!

A few weeks ago I volunteered with The Girl Impact program in Livingstone, Zambia and got to see first hand the impact this incredible program is making in the lives of both girls and women in the community. Unlike many other programs, they don’t just target girls --they understand that you can’t educate a girl, if you don’t educate a boy. Their programs range from offering workshops on gender equality for children to reproductive health classes for women, to ensuring that girls stay in school and are safe from violence.
Although the program has a strong presence in the community, they don’t have their own space which means they are often borrowing rooms for local schools or simply gathering around a mango tree for lessons (which sounds lovely except when it’s rainy season and it’s pouring almost everyday!) This could all change with your help. With the right funds, the Girl Impact could have their own community center. It would not only be a safe haven to have more expansive conversations about sex, gender and health, but also create jobs in the community to build and run the center. Help us create a space for the girls of Livingstone to grown, blossom and give back to their communities! Every penny you donate is going to help create a space potentially for hundreds of boys and girls. It’s a dream they have had since day one and very excited it is all happening - now we just must fundraise! The funds will be directly collected by The Girl Impact program team.

Born out of a partnership with the the African Impact and African Impact Foundation, the goal of The Girl Impact is not only educate and empower young girls, but give a voice to speak up for the rights as a girl. Working with girls, women, boys and men, we stand to create equality in 3 towns, 3 countries and over 300 girls and boys. We seek to address the UN Sustainable Development Goals for Gender Equality and address multiple other goals.
