Help Sherry Hear!

Donation protected
Sherry lost 80% of her hearing in her right ear because of an accident when she was a child. As you can imagine, her remaining ability to hear, she considered precious. Recently she went to an ear specialist and found out that she has now lost 15% of her hearing in her left ear. (or her "good ear" as we always referred to it growing up.) She is now essentially half deaf. It is painful to see our mother embarrassed or frustrated because she can't hear, and enraging that her health insurance will not cover something she needs. We don't feel that she should have to go through life unable to enjoy it to her full potential. Not only does she need this.... put bluntly, she deserves it.

Sherry doesn't know we are fundraising for her, so please keep this a secret for now! For Christmas we will present the funds we have raised to her and show her this page so she can read any comments that have been posted and see who donated. =)

Sherry likes to take care of other people. Anyone who knows her knows this. She will watch your kids, bake you a casserole, pick you up and give you a ride to wherever you need to go....her joy in life is helping others. But we've decided that she has to take care of herself, too. She's unable to purchase the hearing aid because of her finances, and because of the struggle to obtain reasonable health insurance, and being who she is, she's not one to make a fuss over it.

Her doctor has recommended a specialized hearing aid. Unfortunately her health insurance will not cover the device. The full cost is $1800, which includes a full warranty if it's ever broken or damaged. When my sister and I heard this price, we were floored. Why would a hearing aid, something someone needs to go about their daily life, be so expensive? We looked at cheaper models, laid out all our options, and discovered that because of the extensive nerve damage, a different type of hearing aid would be ineffective. Kacie did some recon, and discovered that we can put a 50% downpayment on the device, and payments can be made on the rest of the balance. We hope to raise $1000, which will cover a little over a 50% downpayment, and taxes on the device.

So friends, family, if Sherry has ever made you a casserole, given you a lift somewhere, or just plain been the caring and compassionate person that she is, maybe you can help us give her the best gift we can think of this Christmas; the gift of hearing.
