Since the beginning of 2020 I noticed a steep decline in business and mass client cancellations due to an unusual number of flu victims. I struggled throuh the slow season but was able to keep things afloat. Once the COVID-19 Pandemic hit my clientele nearly disappeared sans one or two people booking services weekly. Sadly all non essential business have been ordered to close so it is with a heavy heart that I must obey in an effort to help flatten the curve. I received the following email from my landlord on Saturday, March 28th.:
"Dear Tenant(s),
This is an auto-generated message to notify you of your charges due by April 1, 2020.
Chicago Apartment Place is aware that individuals in the Chicagoland area are greatly impacted by the shutdowns and extreme measures required to combat the spread of COVID-19. Unfortunately, at this time, we are not forgiving, waiving, or abating any rent that is currently due or that becomes due. If you are experiencing particular hardship, please feel free to reach out to us directly as we are committed to working with our tenants that are struggling during these tough and unprecedented times. We appreciate your understanding.
Kindly take a minute to review the attached statement. If you have not submitted payment, we would appreciate it if you would do so at your earliest convenience. Additional notices may auto-generate for any remaining balance, including late fees."
I do share my space with another skin care therapist but I couln't bring myself to make her pay. Instead I told her that I would cover us both so she can hold her head above water. My business doesn't qualify me for unemployment. I have applied for an SBA loan but as of yet have heard nothing back and after communicating with several other small business owners its looking like the process is going to either be incredibly slow or there will be mass denials of the loan. I have considered applying at places like Target, Walgreens, CVS, Marianos, Trader Joes etc. but as a severe asthmatic I am terrified of what the COVID-19 virus would do to me.
Any money donated will be used to continue paying rent, utilities and past due balances with vendors.
And again anything donated I will allow to be used as credit towards any service at the clinic! Just let me know when you book and I will apply during payment. ONLINE BOOKING
Asking for help is difficult for me and I sincerely appreciate you taking time to read my story.
Much much love,
Adam
