Help with Pos-Covid care

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

My name is Samantha Moura, I am a student in Laguardia community college, community organizer with Abolition Action and a immigrant from Brazil.  The only reason I am able to be in the USA today is because of my parent's raffles, friends donations, and 5 years of working and saving money to pay for the most affordable exchange program (Au Pair).

I come from a family of 6 children that grown up in a 2 bedrooms house. My parents financial conditions were less than ideal, but they always tried their hardest so we could have our basic necessities fulfilled. Mom worked from 5am to 11pm everyday. My Dad worked as a motorcycle delivery man and had several injuries throughout the years.  We survived our childhood with church donations and help from family and friends.

Unfortunately this year my dad, contracted  COVID-19 and today is his 63rd day in the icu. In the midst of his hospitalization we lost hope when doctors told usu it was a matter of time for him to go. Miraculously he is recovering and is set to leave the icu in 5 days, and be home in about 10 days and this is why I'm writing this.

To ask for help is a hard thing, but even though my personal conditions are better now in the USA,  and I have help from friends and family, we still need financial help for his recovery process. The doctors said that his recovery will last until the end of the year, and he will need 24/7 care, so my mom (who is the main source of income), will have to be his primary caretaker.

Since my parents house is small and not wheelchair accessible, we will need to build a new bathroom, buy ramps, and organize one room for him. We will also need physiotherapy sessions, diapers, medical gloves, medical masks, a medical bed, sheets, towels etc...

It is a blessing and a miracle that after COVID, intubation, tracheostomy, several infections, and other complications he is still fighting. My family is so happy to finally be able to have him home, but we need all the financial help we can get to make his recuperations as smooth as possible.

Thankfully in Brazil we have a universal health system, so the money gathered here will be mostly for the house changes as to the daily needs of taking care of him.

Please share with family and friends, send us some good energy and prayers for his recovery.

Thank you all.
