Please Keep Mio on her Feet

Friends of Mio Coronado have decided to embark on a mission to help a loving and generous friend who without regard for themselves has given so much to others.
In 2002, 32 year old Mio Coronado decided to change her life. She enjoyed her fulfilling life as a housewife with three beautiful children, a wonderful house and a career in the medical field. Mio decided she wanted something more and decided to support her country and the war of terrorism by attempting to enlist in the US Army as her father, brother and numerous cousins and uncles had in the past. However, she faced the challenge of getting her mind and body right for a complete lifestyle change. For the next four years, she began balancing the throws of motherhood and a full time job with training to get her body in shape for what she knew would be a rigorous endeavor. By 2006, she’d made up her mind and decided that it was time to make her move.
Unfortunately on July 20, 2006, fate took a disastrous turn on a Kissimmee, Florida Street. As Mio rode her motorcycle home from a long day’s work as a medical laboratory assistant; she was side-swiped by a driver of a SUV, who didn’t see her because he was on his cell phone. In an instant, the adventurous, outdoor loving mom of three’s life was changed. Upon impact, her left leg was severed at the knee and she was thrown almost 100 feet from the road to the sidewalk. Mio woke up in the hospital with a large concussion and the news from doctors that they wouldn’t be able to save her left leg. It was amputated slightly above the knee with a surgery that required eight revisions over the course of a year and a half. Mio eventually returned to work and a somewhat normal life with help from loved ones and charitable organizations.

With the grace of God, Mio was given a second chance on life; however the pain and turmoil forced her to make other life changing decisions. In 2009, despite a valiant effort, she realized that her marriage of almost 20 years could not withhold the stresses of such a life altering tragedy. She left Florida and moved to Texas with her younger brother. It was there that she began to continue her career in the medical field and take college classes towards a Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
As fate would have in 2012, medical complications from her amputation set her back at work and in school. Unable to endure the pain, she was forced to seek out prosthetic specialists in San Antonio, TX. Numerous unsuccessful attempts were made to properly fit Mio with a leg that would allow her to remain active and continue her higher education. Mio has since moved to Washington State and sought out the help of a well-established prosthetist whose treated thousands of amputees and many veterans of the wars in Iraq in Afghanistan.
Unfortunately medical bills and lack of quality health insurance is preventing Mio from receiving a specialized prosthetic that would allow her to return to college and receive a nursing degree so that she could provide others with the same type of care that saved her own life.
Please, help Mio if you can. Our assistance in helping her receive a new leg will allow her to reach her goal. We will continue to release updates regarding Mio’s rehabilitation as she progresses. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
