Help Mindy Beat Cancer for the Fourth Time



Our sister, Mindy, has just received her fifth major medical diagnosis. She now faces a battle with breast cancer. She has already beaten thyroid cancer, twice; a benign brain tumor, and uterine cancer for which the radiation and six months of chemotherapy ended just a year ago. 


Her bilateral mastectomy is scheduled the week of Christmas. After the surgery, she faces follow-up appointments with two different oncologists every three months for the next five years. That’s in addition to her regular checkups with her surgeon, radiologist, endocrinologist, and neurosurgeon.


Mindy’s previous health battles have drained the family’s savings with a yearly $5,000 insurance deductible and $9,000 out-of-pocket max. that reset in January. The frequency of her surgeries, treatments, and scans, such as her 191 medical claims in 2017, continues to easily exceed the deductible every year.  


Most of us are just one medical diagnosis away from needing financial help. During the last month alone, Mindy accumulated $9,077 in claims. It will take this hard-working family years of monthly payments to get out from under their medical debt. It simply grows much faster than Mindy and Nick, both of whom work full-time, can pay it down.
