Help Me Finish College

About Me:

My name is Jennifer Charlton and I am currently a Junior at Johnson and Wales University studying Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health. Achieving my Psy. D. (Doctor of Psychology) will allow me to diagnose and treat people with Psychological illness, plus provide clinical training. My ultimate desire beyond working in my stated profession is to educate young women who also share a passion for working in medicine and psychology. I plan to always pay it forward in hopes of motivating others in a positive way.

Background / Adjustment:

In June of 2011, I graduated from high school and headed straight for the University of Maine at Farmington to pursue what I thought to be my dream of being a teacher. After my first year, I realized that my potential seemed better aligned toward a different career path and much clearer, and discovered that my real passion was in Counseling Psychology. In the fall of 2012 I transferred to Johnson and Wales University where I have been pursuing my degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health. My goal is to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree and then attend graduate school for a Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology. Additionally, you will always find me on the Dean's List!

The Challenge:

Unfortunately, by transferring schools, I put myself behind for graduation by one term which may not seem like a big deal, but in order to go on to graduate school in the fall of 2015 as I am currently planning, I must reach my curriculum credit goals for graduation at Johnson and Wales University in May of 2015 or I will be delayed by an entire year before I can enroll in graduate school. To remain on target for my goal of graduating in May 2015, I have researched and formulated a doable strategy, detailed below.

The Plan:

My plan involves (in addition to working full-time) attending the necessary classes both online and physically during the summer of 2014 (This Summer!) which will allow me to graduate on time in May 2015. I have already researched the classes required and have received authorization from JW confirming the credits for said classes which will be applied to my transcripts as normal, and as such, realign my schedule to graduate on time. Phew!

The Money:

In order to afford the required summer classes, I must raise the necessary funds myself. I am striving to raise a total of $2,700 which includes summer tuition, and all associated fees.

The Solution:

I anticipate being able to earn a portion of this budget through my current job, although much of what I earn is already going toward my current expenses for school, and my parents (in addition to what they are already contributing) will also contribute as well. Based on estimating my earnings and combined with the contributions of my parents, I have determined that I will need to get creative to make up the difference, which I estimate to be approximately $1700. As such, I have decided to launch this crowd funding campaign in hopes that perhaps some of you might like to help me reach my goal.
